Orientation and College Success Courses

Orientation

As part of our efforts to provide the best opportunity for our students to start with a strong foundation, Isothermal requires students to complete an online orientation through Moodle or attend an in-person session. Orientation familiarizes students with campus procedures and resources and offers information and assistance to help them succeed in college.

Some students may be exempt from orientation, for example, those currently classified as a College and Career Promise (CCP), Early College, Career and Technical Teacher Education Program (Lateral Entry), Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), or Special Credit students. Students may also be exempt from participating in orientation if they graduated from an Isothermal program within the past five years before enrolling in a new program. The latter exemption does not include prior enrollment in CCP courses.

ACA College Success Courses

At Isothermal, we believe in setting our students up for success. That's why we offer a student success course, ACA 122: College Transfer Success. This ACA course provides an extensive orientation not only to the College but also to the first-year college experience with a focus on problem-solving, goal-setting, educational planning, and career and college exploration. It is more than just a course-it is a stepping stone to creating good habits for the future. We strongly recommend that degree-seeking students enroll in an ACA course during their first semester.
